Searching for the perfect image or artwork for your project can be among the most frustrating steps in the marketing and design process. Then comes the sticker shock of accessing said stock image or creative assets. Luckily there is a growing assortment of sites with some really great artists sharing their work free of or near free of copyright restrictions. Even better, folks are gathering them into handy dandy lists, here are 9 of the best of those list (IMHO) in my humble opinion.
About: The NuSchool put this list together in March, 2015. It contains links to 44 sites and a couple of cool tools for images. A bulk of the sites have great synopsis about licensing restrictions (most have none) as well as notes about the size of the collection.
About: This list was put together by the folks at Entrepreneur magazine. Much less exhaustive than the new school list and has some overlap. There are however a few mentioned on the Entrepreneur list that didn’t make it to the list for the NuSchool.
About: Headway Themes overlaps with the rest on this list some but adds two newbies to their list of nine worth checking out.
About: The title alone says this is probably a good find, right? The blog at Canva pulls together a monster list that has lots of new additions, but even better, their list applies a rating system, albeit subjective and based on their own biases. Stars are assigned based on a site’s ability to excel in ease of search, quality of photography and library size.
About: Sometimes it’s nice to just have a small list of good choices to pick from. Dustin Senos the former head of design at medium assemble this list. It has some of the familiar faces we see on other lists and few additions as well.
About: There are some different sites on this list. Not necessarily as artsy as the others, but if you just need your basic stock image, you’ll likely find a site here that can accommodate you.
