I have this weird addiction to digital marketing dashboards. It’s weird because I always told myself I hated numbers. Probably because of flashbacks to high school math teachers with their scary red pens, bad jokes and coffee breath.
Dashboard Overcomplication Syndrome
It started with excel spreadsheets. Finding new formulas and ways to capture and present data and trends. But before I knew it my worksheets were monstrosities that made my eyes bleed. Excel is great but I forgot to KISS the dashboard, keep it simple stupid. Quickly everything got out of hand. When I graduated to Google Analytics and creating custom dashboards there, it’s like you fall into a wormhole of endless possibilities. It’s easy to forget to start with a hypothesis so that the data has something to answer. You suddenly turn into to a Hibachi chef for numbers. Slicing data with no rhyme or reason.
